NY Governor asks Niantic Labs to ban sex offender form Pokémon GO

We're sorry New York sex offenders, but no Pokémon GO for you.

New York sex offenders that are addicted to Pokémon GO recieved bad news earlier today when Governor Andrew Cuomo asked the game's developers to ban players that are in the state's sex offenders list.

"Protecting New York's children is priority number one and, as technology evolves, we must ensure these advances don´t become new avenues for dangerous predators to prey on new victims", said Governor Cuomo in a statement today. The governor takes particular issue with the game's "PokéStops" that can be equipped with lures to attract pokémon as well as other players to the spot. He believes that sexual predators could use this places as a way to lure children, so he's demanding the game´s makers to add certain protections.

New York requires all sex offenders to register and update all e-mail accounts, screen names and other internet identifiers with the New York State Division of Criminal Justie Services. The state sends this information each week to more than two-dozen social networking sites.
Governor Cuomo wants to add Niantic Labs to the list of social networking companies that receive this list.

At the moment it is unclear if Niantic Labs will indeed implement the ban.
